TEHRAN (AIPFF) – On the first day of AIPFF, the documentary “American Coup”, directed by by Joseph Ayella, is going to be screened on Wednesday, 24th  of August in Soureh Hall of Howzeh Honari at 16 p.m.

American Coup tells the story of the first coup ever carried out by the CIA – Iran, 1953. Explores the blowback from this seminal event, as well as the coup’s lingering effects on the present US-Iranian relationship. Includes a segment on the 1979 Iranian Hostage Crisis and its relation to the 1953 coup. Concludes with a section on the recent Iranian presidential election. Contains interviews with noted Middle East experts and historians and prominent public figures such as Stephen Kinzer (author, All the Shah’s Men), Prof. Ervand Abrahamian, Trita Parsi, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Ted Koppel and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. With Iranian cinematography by James Longley.

This film delves into the considerations that lay at the root of the decision to stage a coup to remove Premier Mohammed Mossadegh, who was democratically elected in 1951. The primary justification behind the coup was that Mossadegh nationalized the oil trade, thereby excluding the British who had wielded power up until that point.

The 3rd edition of Ammar International Popular Film Festival is on the 24th of August in Teheran, capital city of Iran. The date of the festival is coincided with the 63rd anniversary of the US-sponsored 1953 coup d’état against the government of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadeq.

The mission of Ammar festival is to help the world become familiarized with the Iranian culture and promote the true image of Iran and the Iranian people.
