US military aircraft dropped two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, killing thousands of people, mainly civilians. “I Am Become Death” is a historic documentary that in forty minutes provides exact details of how the US designed and developed its first atomic weapons in stages during World War II. It reveals how J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was a Jew born in New York, helped the US develop the nuclear bombs. “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds” is a quote from Oppenheimer. The short film refers to the fact that Oppenheimer made the statement after the US successfully test-fired its nuclear weapons in New Mexico in 1945, and then President Harry Truman gave the US army the green light for the atomic bombings of the two Japanese cities.
