Filmmakers like Miguel Littín Very Few in the World

TEHRAN (AIPFF) - Iranian director and producer Behrouz Afkhami has expressed consent over the presence of Chilean anti-coup filmmaker Miguel Littín in Iran.

TEHRAN (AIPFF) – Iranian director and producer Behrouz Afkhami has expressed consent over the presence of Chilean anti-coup filmmaker Miguel Littín in Iran.

“Littín’s personality has several aspects. Other than being a global filmmaker, he has a unique political and revolutionary personality, as he has an ideology, has a voice in media, and is also politically active,” said Afkhami, adding, “He has been a friend of Salvador Allende and had major political activities during the Chilean Coup, for which he was sentenced to death; later he was expelled from Chile and sent into exile.”

Afkhami, the director of the film “the Devil’s Day”, talked about Littín’s character as a filmmaker and pointed to his status in cinema. “His character complies with his works in cinema, both being believable and effective. His revolutionary cinema is as believable as his beliefs and revolutionary and anti-coup activities. People like Littín are rare to find in the world’s cinema; people who believe in what they say and what they do, and can make the audience believe their words and works completely,” he elaborated.

“Throughout the world, Hollywood is in search of discovering talents in filmmaking and tries to get under control the great filmmakers of the world, in which it usually succeeds. But when facing filmmakers like Littín, Hollywood surrenders to their faith and beliefs, as it cannot take away their ideology. That is why I say there are few filmmakers like Littín. His independent anti-coup films are among top grossing movies in the US and can compete with Hollywood productions all over the world. But unfortunately we do not have enough such movies to rival with Hollywood productions.

Afkhami called Littín’s revolutionary cinema “an effective cinema”. “What Littín calls a revolutionary cinema may be different from our descriptions of a revolutionary cinema. Yet his cinema is effective and moving, as he is a faithful and well-informed filmmaker. He has a revolutionary view and ideology which affect his filmmaking experience as well,” stated Afkhami, the director of the film “the Fox”.

Later afkhami pointed to Littín’s great international status as a filmmaker. “Iranian filmmakers should also improve the techniques they use and the believability of their works, beside improving the cultural aspects of their films and talking of the discourse of the Islamic Revolution in their works. This way they will be able to attract global audience and send out the message of our revolution to the world. Improving our level of filmmaking is now one of the priorities of the cultural front of the Islamic Revolution’s cinema.
