Iraqi Expatriates Watch Film on Martyred Shia Leader

TEHRAN (AIPFF) - Iraqi expatriates in the Iranian capital, Tehran, watched a film about Ayatollah Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr in Tehran.

TEHRAN (AIPFF) – Iraqi expatriates in the Iranian capital, Tehran, watched a film about Ayatollah Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr in Tehran.

The screening was organized by a group of Iraqi students in Tehran on January 20. Nearly 120 Iraqi expatriated watched the film, entitled as “The Martyr”, in Tehran’s Dowlat Abad District.

Before the film’s screening, the Children of Sky, a play about suppression of Iraqi martyrs directed and performed by Zarqam Al-Ajili, was performed for the audience.

The Martyr was previously screened by Iraqi students of Tehran University.

Directed by Abdul-Aleem Taher, the film chronicles Ayatollah Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr’s life events with focus on his simple life.

The work sheds light on the ayatollah’s courageous campaign against the then-ruling Iraqi monarch Saddam Hossein at the time he reined over Iraq and took over his predecessor’s crown.

Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (born on March 1, 1935) was an Iraqi Shia cleric, philosopher, and ideological founder of the Islamic Dawa Party. He is the father-in-law of Muqtada al-Sadr and also a cousin of Imam Musa as-Sadr. His father Haydar al-Sadr was a well-respected high-ranking Shi’a cleric. Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr was executed in 1980 under the Saddam Hussein regime.
