Americans at the Negotiating Table...
President; Actor of Cinema
“President; Actor of Cinema” is a documentary about Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev’s efforts to provide his people with welfare services. Unlike President Vladimir Putin, Gorbachev was of the opinion that his country needs to relieve tensions with western countries, US in particular, if it is after a successful economy. Siting with Americans at the negotiating table to lay aside differences was his top priority. However, Gorbachev did not benefit from this trust. The plot of the short film highlights how Gorbachev humiliated himself by visiting the US and holding talks with former US President Ronald Reagan. People in the Soviet Union are reeling from poverty, and the US only makes hollow promises of help. The film shows the economic situation getting worse on a daily basis in the Soviet Union and Gorbachev setting sight on Washington’s help. People were sick and tired of Gorbachev and American advisors helped Boris Yeltsin win the presidency of Russia after a coup. He also followed the lead of Gorbachev but no success. The documentary stresses that the US is not trustworthy and never keeps its promises. The film shows how Putin managed to change everything without the help of Washington.
